Here’s a gentler way to caffeine!
With all the buzz and attention it’s getting lately, yerba mate proves itself not just another fad stimulant, but rather a reputable source of energy revered for centuries already. Native to South America, the leaves of this plant contain naturally occurring compounds such as caffeine and polyphenols that have been studied for a variety of positive effects on energy, mood, and focus.
In a published Healthline article by Alina Petre, MS, RD (NL), it is mentioned that when served at 80 milligrams of caffeine per cup, yerba mate contains just about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. But unlike its popular cousin, yerba mate works alongside other bioactive compounds like theobromine, which allow for a steadier sense of energy without the sudden jitters or sharp crash typical of caffeine.
Of all the wonder it carries, yerba mate also has high antioxidant capacity, courtesy of its rich polyphenol profile. Research suggests that it may also influence lipid metabolism and cardiovascular markers, adding to its appeal as a stimulant that does more than just wake you up.
