Aiming for a Healthy Life

Many of you have heard the phrase “Life is a journey, not a destination.”
Well, the same applies to your health, it’s a journey to be healthy. It's not a destination.

While some people don’t consider their health as an everyday focus, others over-exert and injure themselves in an attempt to reach certain goals quickly.

Weight loss, getting fitter, or simply just feeling better, shouldn’t be the only goals of your health resolutions but rather the side effects of living well. Finding a balance to living well that suits you and your body is key to your overall health and feeling great.

Continue making healthy choices and putting a stop to bad habits for positive results in your health journey.

A great quote to consider is one by Albert Einstein. He once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

It’s important to remember that if you don’t reach the health goals you want for the day, week, month, or year, just keep moving. It’s all about the journey.

What Is the Hero’s Journey?

When it comes to your health journey, no matter where you are physically, you haven’t reached the final destination. If all you craved was to run a mile, be beach body-ready or headache-free, what happens when you reach that goal?

Would you just stop living healthily and feeling motivated? No, you probably want to do more.

There is no final destination until your final resting place.

We are meant to be active, challenge ourselves, and live a life of adventure—whatever that may mean for you. The Hero’s Journey helps you gain a better understanding of your own journey.

The concept of the Hero’s Journey started out in a book by Joseph Campbell’s titled The Hero with a Thousand Faces. It’s often used in films and creates a structure of how a story begins and ends.

It opens the hero up to new skills and powers, challenges them, and puts everything on the line for them to achieve personal success.

The Hero’s Journey is all about how they develop and grow; how the nature of their opinions change, causing them to question themselves and eventually, become better individuals.

The 12 steps of the journey are:

  1. Start in the ordinary world
  2. Call to adventure
  3. Initial refusal of the call
  4. Meeting a mentor
  5. Crossing the threshold
  6. Facing tests, allies, and enemies
  7. Entering the innermost cave
  8. The ordeal of crisis
  9. Reward
  10. The road back
  11. Resurrection
  12. Return with insight

Understanding Your Own Hero’s Health Journey

Although your Hero’s Journey may not be quite as exhilarating as a blockbuster movie, it’s still an adventure, a journey. The journey from the known to the unknown looks different to everyone and can be challenging but also rewarding.

The Hero’s Journey resonates both in pop culture as well as your personal life.

Whether it’s quitting your job to commit to your passion, cutting out processed foods or signing up to run your first marathon, this journey is yours, and it’s spectacular!

Other people in your life may doubt you, or the fear may eat you up, but by overcoming limitations, you can continue to progress on your own journey and live your best life.

Let’s talk about an example we have seen through one of our Sunwarrior Ambassadors. Her name is Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram, better known as Fully Raw Kristina on YouTube and Instagram.

When she was eighteen years old, she was diagnosed with hyperglycemia and type 2 diabetes and experienced severe migraine headaches. After meeting with a raw food coach, Kristina committed to eating raw food for two weeks.

What is hyperglycemia? This happens when one’s blood glucose levels shoot up because the body is no longer producing enough or properly using insulin hormones.

Following her raw food diet, Kristina felt transformed internally and finally felt hopeful for the future. She was able to gain healthy weight and restore her health.
Nowadays, Kristina runs six miles a day and takes part in an intense yoga session, giving her body and mind the energy they need to thrive. Kristina’s health journey continues every day as she shares her message of health and hope.

You can have this type of journey, too, as long as you learn to love the journey and not just reaching the destination. Your mind is a powerful tool that can be used to turn your health journey around and help you live a healthier – and happier lifestyle.

Stay Focused on Your True Desires

No matter where you are in your life, remember to stay focused on your true desires. You may reach your goals or just decide you want to do something new, but keep your focus on your true desires.

Make sure to stay true to yourself and honor yourself in ways that help you function better by having the healthiest body possible. This doesn’t mean becoming obsessive over working out or getting no joy from food anymore.

A health journey looks different to everyone, for some, it may mean setting aside time for rest and self-care. Allow your muscles to rest and your body to recover.

For those postponing their health needs because of their mood or other distractions, your physical health and mental health needs should be a daily focus to be your best self.

Overall wellness also includes your emotional and mental health. If these two aspects are in disarray, you will have a hard time in your health journey.

Too much stress can evolve into more serious issues like depression or a panic disorder. It’s important to de-stress.

If you’re in a stressful environment, try to remove yourself from it. Then again, some people may not have the luxury to just quit a toxic job.

Instead, adapt activities or exercise to help you release the tension from your body. Yoga and meditation are great ways to calm your mind and emotions without overexerting yourself.

Epigenetics and Wellbeing

Your health journey is continuous, it doesn’t just stop at any point. How you feel affects your mood significantly and therefore, your world view.

This refers to your perspective and direction of thought. No matter where you are in your journey, being at your optimal health provides you with the best chance of reaching your life goals and missions.

Having the right perspective can help you remain focused on the improvement you desire. Happiness plays an important role in your health.

Voltaire once said, “I have chosen to be happy because it is good for my health.” This quote is the epitome of how the science of epigenetics works.

Your body is unique and your health is individual to your DNA and your environment. This is where the field of Epigenetics comes in.

What is Epigenetics? It’s the study of biological mechanisms that can switch your genes on and off. This means your behavior isn’t just controlled by your genes, it’s also affected by epigenetic factors.

Changes in these factors can play a critical role in disease.

Make the Decision and Commit to It

You are an extension of your environment. Your environment includes your stress management, diet, and activity level.

Your activity level and diet can have a massive impact on your health, and it can sometimes be difficult to stay on track or even just start in the first place.

That’s why you have to make the decision and commit to staying on this journey to improve your health. You have to make a mental shift to change your mindset and the actions you take daily.

Healthy living doesn’t just involve following a healthy diet or the need to lose weight. You also need to plan out a routine to keep your body active like going to the gym, doing yoga, or even running on a fixed schedule.

Even though this can feel difficult at first, it’s worth it in the end.

Challenge Yourself

The Sunwarrior Fitness Challenge aims to bring out the best version of yourself and give you an accountability partner to be sure you stay on your journey. It’s Really All Up to You

Not everyone starts off life in the same way.

Some people grow up in an environment where exercise and eating whole foods is a way of life. Whereas, others begin their health journey after minor or major health issues.

Feeling certain symptoms may be enough to push them into making healthier choices for their own wellbeing. Others may have already been diagnosed with a chronic disease like diabetes, high blood pressure, or even breast cancer.

Health concerns push them to look for solutions based on real science, not studies influenced by the pharmaceutical or food industry.

The good news is that every day, more and more people are waking up and realizing they need to focus on their health and well-being. It’s all about being in it for the long haul, giving up on the quick fixes, and taking charge of your own health.

Fuel your body with amazing superfoods to help you on your health journey from Sunwarrior:

Good health is a journey.

It’s a process that happens every day. And, the choices you make about how you’re going to treat your body and what you’re going to put inside it make a difference in how good you feel mentally and physically.

The journey to better health is constantly ongoing, but what you do now can make a huge impact on what you experience in the future.
