Try this simple and delicious dish at your next get-together with friends and family for a successful evening!
This is a very easy dish to make when short on preparation time! The cumin, garlic, and onions smell amazing when sautéing and will have everyone salivating with anticipation. It’s also full of nutrition with the high amounts of protein in the lentils, the essential fatty acids in the olive oil, and the inflammation reducing properties of the turmeric and other spices. Be prepared to eat healthy and enjoy it!
Green lentil dal with rice is a favorite of everyone who tries it. That’s what makes this is my go-to recipe whenever I have guests or need to bring a dish to pass. Enjoy!
Green Lentil Dal with Rice
- 1 cup brown rice
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 teaspoons cumin seeds
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups lentils
- 4 cups not-chicken broth
- 4 cups water
- 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
Prepare the brown rice according to the directions on the package. Once it’s cooked, set it aside. Or prepare the rest of the recipe near the end of its cooking time.
Heat your oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the cumin and red pepper flakes and sauté for 1 minute. Add the onion, garlic, and salt and sauté for 1 minute more.
Add the lentils, not-chicken bouillon broth, water, and turmeric. Mix it well and cover, reduce the heat to medium-low, and let it simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once it’s finished, you can add the prepared brown rice to the saucepan and mix it up well, or you can plate up the rice and serve the lentil dal on top. Either way, you and your guests will be sure to enjoy the flavor in this dish!
