10 Foods for Radiant Skin

You don’t need the fountain of youth to look and feel young, you just need to feed your skin the best kinds of food! Here are our top ten foods for radiant skin!

We all want beautiful clear, smooth, radiant skin that glows. Radiant skin comes from feeding the body optimum nutrition. The key to radiant skin is found in your own kitchen. How you feed your body is how you are feeding your skin.

The skin is the largest organ in the body that gives us clues to changes that might be happening with our internal body. Acne, rashes, and dry skin are signs that the body is communicating and that there might be deeper issues that need healing. The food that you put in your body ultimately reflects on your skin.

There are many beauty benefits found in foods. Here are my top 10 foods you can start to incorporate more often for radiant, beautiful skin.

Celery or Celery Juice

Celery contains compounds called coumarins that help prevent free radicals from damaging cells which can age the skin. Celery helps to purify the bloodstream and clear up skin problems. It is an excellent hydrator which is needed for supple skin.

Cucumber

Cucumbers contain vitamin C, silica, potassium, and magnesium. The silica, in particular, in cucumber skin improves the complexion and health of the body’s skin. Its high-water content is naturally hydrating for the skin and aids in helping it get that glow we all want. Drinking cucumber juice especially nourishes the skin and helps it look radiant.

Green Veggies

Both leafy and cruciferous vegetables like collard greens, kale, spinach, Swiss chard, baby greens, and broccoli are loaded with skin-beautifying phytonutrients that help detoxify the body. Many of these greens have vitamin A, B, C, E & K which promote youthful skin and prevent wrinkles.

Berries

Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, cherries, and other berries are full of antioxidants and phytochemicals for skin-boosting benefits. Full of vitamin C, B, and E, berries help brighten and smooth dull looking skin. Antioxidants in berries also help protect your skin against skin-damaging free radicals and help reduce and repair wrinkles.

Orange, Yellow, and Red Foods

Bright colored foods such as carrots, yams, and red or yellow peppers have skin-brightening vitamins such as A & C. These vitamins, full of antioxidants, combat free radical damage in the body. Orange foods, in particular, are high in beta-carotene which are known to support eye health. But did you know that vitamin A also helps with skin health too? Beta-carotene converts to vitamin A which promotes youthful looking skin. Vitamin A helps reverse sun damage, signs of aging and prevents wrinkles. These foods are also high in vitamin C which helps repair and regenerate the skin's collagen.

Cabbage

Cabbage contains indole -3-carbinol, a powerful antioxidant that supports detoxification in the liver. Cabbage can support acne prone skin because it helps to flush out the toxins in your body and clears them from the bloodstream. Cabbage also contains vitamins A, C, and E. These super anti-aging nutrients help smooth the skin and minimize fine lines.

Sea Vegetables

Sea vegetables are well known for their amazing anti-aging properties both internally and applied to the skin. They are super packed with beauty benefits and nutrient rich. Sea vegetables contain protein, iron, and B vitamins that help regenerate, revitalize, and protect the skin.

Ginger

Most issues that are related to the skin may be connected to some form of inflammation in the body. Inflammation internally can also manifest itself on the skin externally as acne, skin rashes, or hives. Ginger helps reduce inflammation, improves liver function, and aids in keeping skin healthy and vibrant.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains curcumin, a potent antioxidant that is shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect. Turmeric cleanses the blood, increases circulation, and heals tissue. Clean blood equals clean skin.

Nuts, Seeds and Healthy Fats

Healthy fats, especially omega-3 boosting fats such as walnuts, chia, hemp, and flax, are important for glowing healthy skin. They nourish the skin and help prevent inflammation. Healthy fats such as avocados which are rich in vitamin A, C, E, and K help maintain smooth skin and healthy skin tone. Avocados contain an antioxidant called glutathione that has been reported to be very important not only in keeping the skin healthy but keeping the entire body young and youthful.

The skin reflects what’s going on inside our bodies. The less junk there is to move out of the body, the more our skin can glow. Cut out simple carbohydrates, sugars, gluten, dairy, and excessive meat as these foods can cause breakouts, wrinkles, skin irritations, and can age the skin. Instead, incorporate the above foods and other raw fruits and vegetables in your diet on a regular basis to significantly improve your skin and give you that lasting radiant glow.
