With summertime quickly approaching, Jason Wrobel, aka J-Wro, brings us one of his favorite teas—the hibiscus energy tea. This is a quick recipe that takes about 20 minutes in all. Combine filtered water, ginger, cinnamon, star anise, allspice berries (or substitute juniper berries), clove, and hibiscus flowers. Boil for 20 minutes, then strain. Add fresh lime juice and Sunwarrior Liquid Light to more filtered water, and combine with your hibiscus concoction. For added sweetness, put in a drop or two of liquid stevia. Voila! There you have it, the perfect hibiscus tea to serve to your friends and family.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups warm water
- 1½ tablespoons ginger, chopped
- Few stars of star anice
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons allspice berries or juniper berries
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 3–4 hibiscus tea bags
Method:
Bring all above ingredients to a low roiling boil for about 20 minutes to steep. Drain the mixture over strainer into a bowl.
In a pitcher add:
- Juice of 1 lime
- 4 cups room temperature water
- 1 capful Sunwarrior Liquid Light
Then add the hibiscus tea to the pitcher of water. For sweetener, add stevia to taste (probably about ½ dropper).
Serve up with ice and enjoy.
