Happy Valentine’s Day Cake Pop Hearts

A celebration of sweethearts begs the attention of something extra sweet. These Valentine’s Day cake pop hearts will put a little more pink in your holiday!

Here is a quick and easy way to make cake pops without having to buy any fancy cake pop maker or mold and allowing you to avoid a messy cake mix, frosting disaster (if you made these from scratch, you know what I mean).

All you need is a cake loaf. In this recipe, I opted to try Organic Oven’s lemon loaf as I wanted something that was the consistency of pound cake. You can also use Sweets from the Earth’s gluten free chocolate cake if you are a real chocolate lover.

The only other equipment you need is a heart-shaped cookie cutter and cake pop sticks.

This can be fun to make with the kids for Valentine’s Day. What kid doesn’t love to use cookie cutters and dip chocolate?

Ingredients

  • 1 cake loaf (vegetarian or vegan)
  • 1 cup coconut oil (melted)
  • ½ cup of Sunwarrior Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or to taste)

Directions

Liquify the coconut oil at low heat in a pan or place in a glass container and melt in a double boiler.

Add the melted coconut oil, raw cacao powder, and maple syrup in a blender and blend until smooth.

Slice the cake loaf approximately ¾ of an inch thick. Using a heart shape cookie cutter, cut as many hearts out of each slice of cake loaf that it allows.

Dip the cake pop stick into the melted chocolate, and then insert them into the cake pop heart. Let the chocolate set in the fridge or freezer for 5 minutes. This can help avoid the cake from falling off the stick.

Once the sticks have set into the cake, dip each cake pop into the chocolate slowly. Make sure not to over-soak the cake pop. You can always double-dip later. Wait until all the chocolate on the cake has had a chance to drip completely off before placing it upright in a glass jar to chill in the freezer. After all the cake pops on the sticks have been dipped in chocolate, put them in the freezer until the chocolate has hardened.

If you like, you can re-dip them in a second layer of chocolate

Chill them one last time to set the chocolate (approximately 10-15 min)
