Coconut Protein Donuts

These donuts are super simple to make and come together in no time. With a handful of ingredients, these donuts are healthy, vegan, paleo, and gluten-free, and have an extra health benefit by protein. They’re perfect in the morning, evening, or even post-workout.

You can make these donuts as festive as you want depending on the season. Adding some

diced apple and cinnamon to the recipe is delicious for the autumn and winter. You can also add cocoa and mint to create an amazing holiday mint chocolate donut.

Coconut flour is such a splendid substation for traditional flour. Unlike white flour, coconut flour is high in fiber, protein and has an abundance of healthy fats. It’s carbohydrates are very easy digestible on the body and low in calories. Due to the amount of fiber found in coconut flour, it will not spike blood sugar levels like white flour does. This flour is incredible for those who are trying to watch their diets and those who suffer from diabetes. Tapioca flour is rich in fiber which can help our stomachs digest foods and metabolize them. Tapioca flour can boost our energy levels naturally as well.

Coconut Protein Donuts

Ingredients:

Glaze:

  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup icing sugar
  • Coconut flakes for coating

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 C
  2. Place all dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk well
  3. Add applesauce and water to dry ingredients. Stir well. If the mixture is still dry, add a bit of water a teaspoon at a time until the mixture is smooth
  4. Coat donut pan with coconut oil. Pour mixture into pan until 3/4 full. Bake for 15 minutes
  5. Remove from pan and let cool for 10 minutes
  6. In a small bowl combine coconut oil and icing sugar. Place coconut flakes on a separate plate for dipping
  7. Dip each donut in glaze and then coconut flakes.
