The holidays are usually accompanied by the sugar rush and crash of the season. Here’s how to bounce back from holiday overload!
Halloween marks the official or unofficial start to “holiday season,” the 2–3 months of pumpkin-everything, gingerbread-anything, and leftover candy in between. You might find yourself caught under some mistletoe this season, but you’ll more likely find yourself caught in a sugar hangover—at least one or ten times.
Not far off from an alcohol hangover, a sugar hangover causes similar struggles: headaches, nausea, fatigue, tummy issues, mood swings, and the dreaded craving for MORE SUGAR NOW! But rather than perpetuate the sugar-cycle by giving yourself MORE SUGAR NOW, maybe try these sweet three things instead:
Sweat on Purpose
One of the top ways to balance blood sugar and sweat the sugary cravings right out of ya is to exercise! Workout out also helps your muscles use the blood sugar instead of your body just storing it, which is great. Exercise also helps you get those happy-mood-hormone things called endorphins, and you’re less likely to crave a sugar high if you’re already on a sweaty high! Sweating also begs you to drink more water which can help your body reset after a sugar-session, as well.
Sip Apple Cider Vinegar
Maybe not in your workout water bottle, but adding some apple cider vinegar to your home water cup can help your over-sugared body. Apple cider vinegar is a fermented magical potion which can help with detoxification, digestion, and balancing blood sugar. My suggestion is to try to sip on 16 ounces of water with 1–2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it to really help your body feel good again.
Party with Some Plant-Protein
Avoid blood sugar dips by getting your plant-protein party on! Ideally, eating “recovery meals” filled with a healthy plant fat like avocado, fiber which is found in fruits, veggies, whole grains, and plant-based protein like lentils, tofu, tempeh or Sunwarrior’s Classic protein powder and Sol Good protein bars is a great way to go to help you feel satisfied with no sugar in sight!
