Top 5 Brain Boosters

Feeling like your brain could use a boost? Maybe you’re tired, in a fog, sluggish, forgetful, or just overworked, Boost your brain power naturally!

There are ways you can perk up your gray matter without reaching for another cup of coffee or a soda. Jason Wrobel, your favorite celebrity vegan chef and cookbook author, is happy to share his top five natural brain boosters.

First things first, get a healthy dose of omega 3 fatty acids. Your brain is composed of almost sixty percent fat, as nerve cells love the stuff. So good, nourishing fats are essential to proper brain function. These include ALA, EPA, and DHA, the three key omega fatty acids you should be consuming daily. Get them from omega-rich algae, phytoplankton, hempseed, flax seeds, and chia seeds. You also need a lot of B vitamins, specifically B6, B9, and B12. B12 is required for methylation, which helps keep cells healthy, including those in the brain. Flavonoids are another ingredient to a healthy brain. These antioxidants are found in dark berries, like raspberry, blackberry, acai, and blueberry, and they protect the brain from free radical damage.

Vitamin D3 is also important, whether it comes from some modest sun exposure (15 to 20 minutes), a transdermal vitamin D cream, or from a lichen supplement. D3 will assist in neuron growth. Bonus, there’s a powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidant in turmeric (the spice in curry powder) called curcumin. This, combined with black pepper to activate it, can possibly help break down the beta amyloid plaques that build up in the brain and contribute to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s. Eat a healthy, balanced diet with these superfoods, and you are well on your way to an awesomely healthy brain.
