Oil-Free Basil Pesto

Pesto is a sauce meant to zip and zing. This pesto recipe is no exception! filled with healthy ingredients and great flavor, you'll never want pesto any other way.
There is nothing more wonderful than the smell of fresh basil growing on the windowsill. One of the healthiest, most delicious and fun herbs to cook with is basil. Basil is an essential ingredient in Italian and Mediterranean cuisines and can be added to sauces, pasta dishes, pizza, soups, salads, and so much more. Basil is easy to grow both indoors and outdoors.
Basil, high in vitamin A and C, is excellent for vision, bone health, skin and immune boosting. Vitamin K is also abundant in basil and is an important nutrient essential for blood clotting and strengthening bones.
In addition, this recipe contains brain boosting walnut and pecan power. It is not a coincidence that the walnut resembles the shape of the brain. In addition to improving memory and brain function, the omega 3 fatty acids found in walnuts contain inflammation-fighting powers.
Pecans, are loaded with minerals such as magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, and selenium. They are high in vitamin E, which is beneficial for heart health.
Lastly, this recipe includes cilantro which is an amazing toxic-metal cleaner. If you suffer from mercury exposure, add some cilantro leaves to your smoothie or juices to flush any heavy metals out of your body.
Cilantro is also known as coriander in the culinary world. Coriander is the seed of the cilantro plant. this herb is very popular and widely used in a number of cultural dishes from the Middle East, Latin America, India, and the Mediterranean.
This pesto recipe is far from the traditional Italian recipe that includes parmesan cheese, pine nuts and olive oil; however, it is equally tasty and delicious. There are so many wonderful variations of pesto; give this one a try and let us know how you like it.
Oil-Free Basil Pesto
- ½ cup walnuts (soak for 3–4 hours, optional)
- ½ cup pecans
- 1 bunch basil
- 1 cup cilantro
- 2–3 tablespoons of lemon
- ½ teaspoon Himalayan or pink salt
Add all ingredients into a food processor and process until smooth.
Add a little bit of water (only if necessary) to allow all ingredients to blend evenly.
The pesto should be chunky and thick.
Add to your favorite pasta, pizza, or simply dip your favourite vegetable crudités.
