How do you stay fueled when training for those important races like an IRONMAN®70.3®? Let Sunwarrior help!
Let’s face it. You get old. You can’t expect to be able to train like you did in your thirties when you’re fifty, well, fifty-two, in my case. As you demand more from your body you need to train smarter and recover better, and one of the crucial components is your nutrition protocol. That’s why I love Sunwarrior. They are my whole food, plant-based nutrition partner and have been essential in helping me stay healthy during my IRONMAN®70.3® training.
The relentless training can be overwhelming. Trying to get everything in (family, work, training) is daunting. Sometimes you just don’t have time to make a meal. When I am crunched for time, I grab a SOL Good Protein Bar. They are a delicious nutrient-packed grab-and-go choice. I know I am getting the nutrition I need to get me through.
My 2017 race schedule includes 70.3 North American Championships in St George, IRONMAN Boulder, and IRONMAN Louisville. Racing is like the cherry on top the sundae. The training is where all the work goes in. Competing in an IRONMAN is not something to take lightly. The 140.6-mile distance is daunting.
Training for a race like an IRONMAN is like having a second job. The time spent swimming, biking, and running takes away from your family and friends. If you’re lucky, you enjoy the training as much as the racing. If you don’t, then maybe a long distance triathlon isn’t for you. A typical training week as I ramp up for the IRONMAN distance consists of 4 swim workouts, 40 to 60 miles of running including intervals and long runs; 150 to 200 miles of biking with a long ride of 80 to 100 miles on Saturday followed by a 10 to 15 mile run off the bike.
If I am not refueling with the right nutrients, then I’m not recovering which historically has led to injury. You wouldn’t expect your car to run without gas. Your engine will eventually seize up without oil. Your body is no different. The stress of training for a triathlon let alone an IRONMAN demands you pay attention to what you’re putting into your body, your engine. Sunwarrior is the cornerstone of my daily supplement regime. The oil for my engine. It feels good to know that I am getting the support I need to stay healthy, recover faster and be ready and focused every day
