In a world where everything is rushed and exhausting, it’s easy to become depressed. These few tips might be the key to fighting depression.
“Happiness is within you.” Most life advice is easier said than done. We all want to be happy. But happiness is so much more than just throwing a smile on your face while feeling a void, or lack of satisfaction, within. Happiness is about feeling content, whole, and vibrant from the inside out. Given our lifestyle in this day and age, we’re torn between pursuing a career, running a family, staying fit, traveling, and the list goes on. Life is about striking a balance that works for you, that you can follow long term, and that truly makes you happy.
Here are a few tips to create happiness inside out.
You may get a lot of “you’re selfish” if you start focusing on yourself. Again, putting yourself first does not mean you lack empathy or become way too self-involved. It simply means that you have the ability to take care of yourself and can be honest with yourself. Learn to put yourself first; take care of your health, mind, and body. Learn to say no when you truly are maxed out emotionally, mentally, and physically. Saying no can set healthy boundaries and leave you time and space to be you.
Healthy Body, Healthy Mind
Having a healthy body is great. Vanity aside, maintaining a good fitness routine (yoga, running, rock climbing, and so on) is not just a way to build your physical strength, but prevents disease and boosts your self-confidence. Having a healthy physique is linked to your gut and mind. Leading a high quality, disease-free, and pain-free life can lead to a healthy and free mind. Stay active. Stay strong inside out.
“Once a year, travel to a place you have never been before.” Traveling is not a luxury; it’s an experience. It’s your personal adventure which can open your mind and expand your opportunities and views. The most beautiful part comes when experiencing different cultures, meeting people from different parts of the world, and, above all, allowing yourself to evolve. It can be expensive, but there are always ways to at least visit the closest city to you. Allow yourself this experience, and watch your happiness grow.
You Are What You Eat
Sound cliché? Well, it is true. What you put in your body affects your gut, health, and mind. Research proves your gut is linked to your mind. Given the number of processed foods and unhealthy lifestyles many people follow, it’s no wonder people are more prone to depression and mood swings.
Leading an organic, plant-based diet has been proven to reduce the amount of chemicals and antibiotics in your body. The less processed food you consume, the less congested your colon will be. Your gut is responsible for 70% of your immune system. Your happiness starts from the gut; make a conscious effort to eat clean and treat your body right. You are what you eat, so decide what you want to be.
You are whatever you want to be.
