Don’t let your skin suffer under dirt and oil. Follow these four suggestions for healthy skin.
Skin is the largest organ of the human body. I’m sure many of us take good care of our skin, but many also use tons of makeup and skin lotions made up of unnatural substances and chemicals. Unfortunately, our skin absorbs anything applied on our skin and it gets carried on to your blood stream and absorbed by all your cells. This leads to dry skin, eczema, irritated skin, breakouts, and more. It’s not just enough to eat right and work out—one has to be cautious in all angles. Here are a few tips to keep your skin young, healthy, and fresh.
Keep Your Skin Clean
Washing your face/body upon waking up and before going to bed should be a ritual. This will remove any excess oil or even makeup and allow your skin to breathe and prevent chemicals from building up on your skin. Keep in mind that washing your skin too many times can leave it dry and itchy, while not washing at all can lead to oil buildup and cause breakouts and acne. Keep it simple and keep it balanced.
Change Your Bedding
We change our clothes every day, and we change what we eat. But we definitely forget to switch pillowcases and bed sheets on a regular basis. Our pillowcases get drool on them, your dogs jump over them, we sweat on them—the list is endless. We may just be sleeping on a bacterial pillow loaded with germs feeding on our skin. Do yourself a favor and change them weekly. Or simply use a new towel every two days over your pillowcase. Small steps can go a long way.
Keep Your Makeup Light
Yes, the most important one. No chemicals, no makeup. It’s true that the most beautiful skin is the one which is natural, unmasked, the one just left to be the way it naturally is. It is difficult not to get swayed by the million cosmetic options: makeup, hairdos, eyelash extensions, and what not. At the end of the day, it’s your skin and your duty to keep it healthy. While it’s fun to put on some makeup for a date night or a night out, it’s no fun to walk with layers of makeup and clay-like faces on a daily basis.
Keep your skin simple. Wash with a natural, organic lotion, apply a natural moisturizer like jojoba oil or coconut oil, and go as basic as eyeliner or a natural lip balm. This is natural, simple, beautiful, and just enough.
Be Happy
Last tip: stay happy. Your mood reflects on your skin, mind, and body. Happiness lies within you and not elsewhere. Stay happy and turn every frown upside down. By doing this you will look beautiful from the inside out.
