Healthy Indian Breakfast Ideas
November 03, 2015Breakfast has a way of feeling typical: the same old thing every day. These healthy Indian breakfast ideas will make breakfast something to look forward to!
Starting your day right is the key to good health. Indian meals, in general, are heavy, either filled with rice or wheat flour or with too much ghee and butter. Removing all of these and still having your favorite Indian breakfast meal is possible. These are my top Indian healthy breakfast ideas:
Oats Pongal
Pongal is a famous south-Indian dish. It's creamy, flavorful, and delicious. The amount of ghee and salt can just push it down to the unhealthy level along with its white rice content. The same pongal can be replaced with oats and you get to keep your favorite dish on the table.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup oats
- 2 green chilies
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 zucchini, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 4–5 fresh curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Sesame Chickpea Chappatis
Chappatis are a staple in most Indian households. These yummy round fluffy chappatis have very little nutritional content as they are made up of wheat flour. Due to the chemicals and highly processed products, people are becoming allergic to gluten, they create colonic infections, and other ill effects are seen from eating wheat. Replacing chappatis with chickpea (besan) flour saves you gluten trouble and adds more nutrition to your plate.
- 2 cups chickpea flour
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- A little bit of water to get the dough going
Masala Scrambled Egg Whites
A protein-rich breakfast is a great post-workout meal. Egg whites are packed with protein and are easily absorbed by your body. They're a good way to replenish your muscles and keep you strong.
Ingredients:
- 3 egg whites (or appropriate protein-rich vegan substitute)
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup spinach
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
Protein Smoothie
Leading a healthy lifestyle with a busy work schedule can be difficult. Making a quick healthy meal is the way to go. What's better than a healthy power-packed smoothie?
Ingredients:
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 banana
- 3–4 dates
- 2 mangoes
- 1/2 cup spinach
- 1 scoop Warrior Blend Vanilla Protein (or flavor of your choice)
Green Idlis
Idlis are the healthiest breakfast. They are made up of good probiotics, thiamin and are yummy with some coconut chutney. Adding a bit of a twist to the already perfect idli is what this recipe does.
- 1/2 cup spinach
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 2 cups green lentil, soaked
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoons low fat yogurt
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Enjoy!
