by Katarina Marks December 18, 2015
You do not want to look like Rudolph for the holidays which is why this pomegranate orange chia smoothie is for you!
Smoothies are one of my favorite things! They are fast to make, super healthy, and packed with lots of nutrients. One of the easy ways that you can buy healthy foods while on a budget is buying fruits and vegetables that are on sale. This was my reasoning for making this smoothie that I am about to share with you. As December has approached, pomegranates and oranges are in season and are cheaper to buy! I absolutely love pomegranates, and when they are on sale, I stock up! This Pomegranate Orange Chia smoothie is filled with plenty of antioxidants, fiber, and lots of vitamins, and is perfect for staying heathy during winter and the holidays.Of course I like to know what is in each ingredient and what nutrients are in all the fruits and vegetables, so I know exactly what is going into my body. With only 3 ingredients, it is a quick one to make!Health benefits of pomegranates: High in Vitamin A, C & E, folic acid, and full of antioxidants.Health benefits of oranges: High in Vitamin C, fiber, folate, Vitamin B1, pantothenic acid, copper, potassium, and calcium.Health benefits of chia seeds: excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, full of protein, fiber, magnesium, zinc, iron, and calcium. Now that you know all of the wonderful health benefits, what's stopping you from making the smoothie? Here is the recipe:
Pomegranate Orange Chia Smoothie
Servings 1–2Ingredients:
1 ½ pomegranates
2 medium-size oranges
3 tablespoons chia seeds
Directions:First, the easiest way to deal with a pomegranate is to cut it into four sections. Then use your hands to peel away the white skin inside and put all of the seeds into a blender. Peel the oranges and add it to the blender. Then blend for 1 minute for the juice to become smooth (the pomegranate seeds add just a bit of a crunch). Then add chia seeds and blend once more for the chia seeds to become smooth. The chia seeds helps add a slight thickness to the smoothie. Make this smoothie your own! Whether that is adding more pomegranate seeds or more oranges, either way it will be delicious, so experiment with it and have fun!Drink up and enjoy! Your body will thank you!Variations:Looking for something a little more filling or a meal substitute? You can add one scoop of Sunwarrior Classic Plus: Vanilla. This makes for a refreshing breakfast, lunch, snack or post-workout smoothie.Smoothie bowl: You can also make it into a smoothie bowl, simply add the smoothie to a bowl, and top with your favorite toppings such as granola, coconut flakes, fresh fruit, or honey. With this delicious, nutrient-rich smoothie, you will feel more energized, awake, and ready to conquer the Christmas season!Have a healthy no bake cookie with that smoothie!
