5 All Natural DIY Hair Treatments
June 22, 2017Before your drop a month’s wages on hair product, try these easy DIY hair treatments that will leave you looking like a million dollars without costing a million dollars!
It’s no surprise to anyone that our hair goes through a lot. Whether blow drying, straightening, curling, or pulling it up into a ponytail, hair gets quite the workout on a daily basis. In an attempt to keep hair smooth and healthy, you might find yourself in the hair care isle of the grocery store putting hundreds of dollars of product into your basket! However, you might be able to get similar results with natural products you have at home, or can grab in the organic section of your grocery store. Try some of these out and see how they work for you! Be aware that results may vary depending on the type of hair you have.
Coconut Oil Hair Mask
Simply take some coconut oil and rub it in between your hands. The heat of your hands will melt the coconut oil enough for you to massage it into your roots and through the ends. Once your hair is covered in coconut oil, either put on a shower cap or place a towel around your neck (to catch any drippings) and let it sit for 30 minutes. This is a great time to clean or just hang out. Wash out the coconut oil using shampoo and conditioner, and then let your hair air dry. Repeat once a month or once a week if you have really dry hair!
Avocado and Coconut Milk Hair Mask
A moisturizing hair mask that you can also eat! Mash 1 avocado, ¼ cup coconut milk, and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a bowl and mix well. Cover hair and scalp in avocado mixture and then put on a shower cap or place a towel around your neck. Leave in for 15 minutes, then wash out with shampoo and conditioner. Repeat once a week.
Lemon and Chamomile Natural Highlight Spray
Brew 4–5 chamomile tea bags in 1 cup hot water for about 10 minutes. Remove tea bags and cool tea completely. Pour brewed tea into a clean spray bottle along with the juice of 1 lemon and a teaspoon of coconut oil and shake to combine. Spray on hair right before going into the sun, concentrating on areas that you want to lighten. Results may be noticeable immediately! Repeat as needed to achieve the desired results.
Warm Olive Oil Soak
Heat about ¼ cup of olive oil in the microwave until warm (be careful not to burn yourself)! Use your fingers to work the oil into your scalp and all the way to the ends. Place hair in a shower cap for 30 minutes before washing out, or leave in overnight for extra moisturizing.
Sea Salt Texturizing Spray
Want those “just got out of the ocean” beachy waves? Dissolve 1 tablespoon of sea salt in 1 cup of warm water. Then add 1–2 teaspoons of olive oil for moisture and 4–5 drops of yummy smelling essential oil. Place the mixture into a clean spray bottle. Spray onto your hair when it is still wet, then blow dry and style if you want, or let air dry for a true beachy wave. This spray can be used every day!
While you're letting those masks soak into your hair, treat yourself to a pina colada smoothie!
