Spring Relief In-Home Scalp Treatment

Having someone tell you that you have beautiful hair is a nice compliment for any man or women. But it is rare that anyone would notice, let alone compliment, someone’s scalp! Healthy hair actually begins at the scalp and without proper attention to it, you could end up with oily or flaky and itchy skin and hair, leaving your hair looking lifeless and dull. In severe cases, it’s possible to get painful sores and even lose your hair! So when we treat, moisturize, and pamper every other inch of our body, why does the scalp get left behind?

What causes unhealthy skin on the scalp?

Many things can come into play and affect your body's natural balance, things like diet, hormones, prescription medications, environmental toxins and changes, and over the counter and salon quality hair products can make all the difference in having a healthy scalp. Especially during the winter months, the cold dry air mixed with hot showers can lead to dry skin and a dry scalp.

Why you should add scalp treatments to your self-care routine.

Massaging, cleaning, and treating your scalp gives you the same benefits of doing those things to the rest of your skin and body. Here are a few of the best reasons to give your scalp some TLC:

  • Stimulates blood circulation which can speed up hair growth
  • Removes product build up
  • Removes dry, flaky skin
  • Moisturizes and treats dandruff
  • Relax the muscles on your head and promote total body relaxation

Spring Relief In-Home Scalp Treatment

I’ve created this spring relief, in-home scalp treatment to take away those winter woes and have you saying hello to beautiful silky, healthy hair. Try this scalp treatment with a friend or spouse for a fun pampering treat! You can use this treatment regularly until you get the results you’re looking for.

What you need:

  • The juice of 1 ruby red grapefruit
  • 2–3 drops pure tea tree oil
  • 2–3 tablespoons coconut oil

How to prepare:

Cut your grapefruit in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Remove any seeds and add your 2 or 3 drops of tea tree oil. Stir the two ingredients together to combine.

Take your coconut oil and make sure it comes to room temperature or you can heat it slightly above until it melts fully. The warmth of your hands and head will also bring it up to a meltable temperature.

Application:

Begin with dry hair and make sure it is brushed well so you can move through it easily. Brushing also stimulates the scalp so it’s ready to be treated!

Take your coconut oil and begin rubbing it into your scalp, making sure to cover your whole head completely. Don’t worry about working it into your hair, just focus on the scalp.

Once the coconut oil is massaged in, begin to pour on the grapefruit and tea tree oil solution and continue to massage into your scalp for another 5 minutes. Leave the treatment on for at least 20 minutes.

Finish by washing your hair and scalp in tepid water with a good shampoo and finish with your conditioner.
