Observations on Health
August 14, 2012In the past 32 years I have been involved in the treatment and education of thousands and thousands of patients. During that time, I observed a few interesting things that I feel a responsibility to share.
1) After four years of graduate school and passing National and State Boards for licensure, I was excited to open my practice and save the world. I guess part of my desire was to demonstrate my expertise and yes, to show off my superior knowledge of all those big medical words. I soon discovered that most of my patients just weren’t that impressed. In reality they only wanted to know three things.
a) Did I know what their problem was?
b) Could I fix it?
c) How much would it cost?
The lesson to me was Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS), and don’t confuse them with more facts than they want. If they want to know more, they’ll ask. That was disappointing to me at first; no more showing off.
2) “NO OTHER SUCCESS CAN COMPENSATE FOR THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF YOUR BODY.” I observed that when someone is sick, injured, or unhealthy they have a hard time successfully participating in sports, business, academics, physical labor, or even personal relationships. When you don’t feel well, nothing else much matters.
3) MANY PEOPLE TAKE BETTER CARE OF THE FAMILY CAR THAN THEY DO THEIR OWN BODY. Most people are almost religious about servicing their car with scheduled tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations, quality fuel, keeping it garaged, and even detailing it. Remember, this is a possession that they will use for 3 or 4 years and then trade in for a newer model. These same people don’t exercise; consume large amounts of soda, Cheetos, Pop-Tarts, French Fries, Big Macs, and bacon; and expect their body—that they only get one of—to be healthy and energetic. It may work for a while when they’re young, but damage is accumulating and it will always catch up and there’s no trading their body in for a newer model.
4) In my first couple of years of practice I had a lovely Russian lady come in for a minor problem. I would have estimated her age as in her mid fifties, and was shocked when she told me she was in her early eighties. I told her that either she had amazing genetics or she was doing something right. I asked her what her secret was. This lovely, vibrant lady said in her still pronounced Russian accent, “You know, in America you must be very rich to eat like we ate in Russia because we were very poor.” She stated that she had been raised on bread made from rough ground grains and seeds, and garden grown organic fruits and vegetables; nothing artificial or processed. She said here you have to shop at expensive, specialty markets. She felt her diet had made all the difference.
5) Again, out of following the thousands of patients over many years, I never saw a patient change to a vegan lifestyle who didn’t lose weight and feel and look better. In fact, research demonstrates that vegans even have an average 5 point higher IQ.
Now let me tell you why I am a Sunwarrior. In my years of practice I have heard of and tried about every kind of nutritional product on the market. I experienced a lot of expense for very little benefit. One day my son said, “Dad, you’ve got to try this Sunwarrior stuff.” I lost weight, felt better, and I’m expecting to look better anytime now. I love Sunwarrior. And you should understand—it’s just science. I’m talking nature’s science, not test tubes or chemical science. Nothing has to be added or altered, because it’s put there by nature.
