5 Ways to Soothe Kid's Allergies
March 27, 2017Allergies affect quality of life. Nothing is sadder than a child limited from playing outside or eating certain foods due to allergies. Here are 5 ways to help!
The human immune system protects you from different dangers. The process of immune defense starts when any dangerous substance is introduced. Such defense appears as the inflammation or dysfunction in the body: skin, eyes, throat, respiratory system, or digestive system. Sometimes this simple defense reaction to the foreign substance is heightened, and then kids become allergic.
Any kid may develop allergies, but they are more common in children who have one parent or both parents with a history of such reactions.
Early identification of allergies in kids influences your child's quality of life and can keep your child happy even with some allergy symptoms.
Common Allergy Symptoms in Children:
- Itch, hives, eczema, or flushed skin
- Dyspnea or heavy breathing
- A runny nose, sneezing, or coughing
- Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
Prevalent Allergy Triggers in Kids:
- Outdoors: it may be various pollens (plant or tree), insect bites, or stings
- Indoors: usually domestic pets, animal fur, mold, dust
- Foodstuff: commonly cow`s milk, eggs, fish, wheat, mollusks, soy, nuts especially peanuts. Also, children often have fruit allergies such as a pineapple allergy or an orange allergy.
- Different irritants: perfume, cigarette smoke, pollution
All parents want to help their children relieve allergy symptoms and keep their children happy. Unfortunately, you can't always cure an allergy, but you can help your little one feel better. First of all, you should consult with your doctor and know what type of allergy you’re edaling with so you can choose the right way to make your child's life easier and more comfortable.
Keep the Elimination Diet
If your child has food allergies, it would be better to avoid all potentially allergenic foods. Unless a doctor instructs you otherwise, plan ahead for meals and snacks so your child isn’t missing out when others are eating.
Watch the Weather and Time
The best way to soothe allergy symptoms is, of course, to elude the allergens to begin with. If your child is allergic to pollen, you must know that pollen is usually at its peak in the morning, in the early evening and in the windy weather. Plan outings around those times and weather conditions and have an alternate plan if the winds shift (literally).
Fight Dry Air
If the allergens inflicting your child are in the home (for example, dust), you should always be aware of ambient humidity. A little moisture in the air helps your child breathe easier.
Don`t Touch the Eyes
It’s easier said than done, but keeping your child’s hands away from their eyes helps relieve conditions rather than making them worse. Dust, mold, animal fur or perfume allergies may cause itchy eyes. Use drops and explain to your child that it's very important to keep their hands away from their face. Maybe help your child start a project that will keep their hands busy and away from their eyes.
Drink Something Warm
When a sore throat is the main allergy symptom, warm tea soothes the tender throat. Drinking warm tea with lemon or honey also can relieve sneezing and runny noses.
Soothing away the symptoms of a child with allergies is not always so easy but being aware of their surroundings and sympathetic to their needs will go a long, long way!
