5 Recovery Tips for the Fitness Freak
September 22, 2017Exercising and eating right to be healthy is awesome. But are you recovering to be healthy? Let us show you where you might be missing the mark with these five recovery tips!
Find yourself sore or tired after your workouts? Have sudden cravings? Have physical manifestations such as diarrhea, upset stomach, or hair loss? You may be having side effects of a rigorous fitness schedule, and not taking care of your body correctly. Just because you eat a healthy diet, doesn’t mean your body is recovering the way it should.
Here are my top 5 recovery tips for the fitness freak in you!
1. Protein
If you are a fitness freak, you find yourself in the gym daily, working on your strength, cardio, mental and physical physique. You’re kinda addicted to your health, and that’s awesome. However, if you don’t fuel your body correctly, you may start suffering and find yourself with less than mediocre results when you’ve been working so hard! Protein is the key to recovery. You need to feed your muscles after you have depleted them. This is key in muscle recovery to get you to your next workout without injury. So, fuel up on a protein shake after your workout, and don’t forget to fuel your body with nutritious protein rich foods as well.

2. Water
A key ingredient for a healthy, recovered body is water. If you’re a fitness freak, you can easily find yourself dehydrated, weak, and sore. Are you often thirsty during the day or your workouts? If you are, your body is already dehydrated and working against you. Do you find yourself bloated? Drink more water! You become bloated when your body is not releasing stored water. It’s not letting the water go because you aren’t drinking enough. Sounds weird, but it’s true. Drink more. Your body will thank you, your mind will thank you, and your muscles will thank you.
3. Sleep
If you’re a fitness freak, you need to be sleeping at least 7–8 hours a night for optimal recovery and muscle building. Your body produces the human growth hormone while you sleep. This hormone balances our body out, helps the muscles grow, and heals cuts and bruises. If you are not sleeping correctly, your body is stressed, and frankly, this is when bad things happen. You are more injury prone; your body may manifest gastric upset, fatigue, and other symptomatic ailments as well.
4. Diet
Chances are, if you’re not sleeping correctly, you may not be eating properly either. If you’re hitting the gym daily and adding in additional physical activities, you may find yourself not thinking clearly, irritable, and in combination with a lack of sleep, your symptomatic ailments may be hitting you full force. I can’t stress enough the importance of a nutrient-rich diet in combination with my other tips. Make sure you have a daily diet full of healthy fats, complex carbs, protein, and fruits and vegetables.
5. Supplements
Muscle recovery may take a little more than just a protein shake if you are a gym junkie. Try taking a high-quality multivitamin and mineral supplement like Sunwarrior’s RAW vitamins for Him or her, L-glutamine, and a branched-chain amino acid (BCAAs). These supplements work together to help muscle recovery and reduce stress on the body to ensure a strong wellness.
Once you find a balance of these 5 tips, you will find how quickly your body adjusts to a new you that’s stronger, healthier, less stressed, and physically able to adapt and recovery to the fitness freak in you.
