Cure Insomnia: Become a Morning Person

For those of you who claim not to be morning people and would love to become one- this is for you. Mornings rock. Here’s how to kick insomnia to the curb and enjoy them.

First, the most important thing is for you to forget the term “I am not a morning person” because there is no such thing as a morning, evening, or night person. You may not like getting up early because you sleep late, but that has more to do with your body needing adequate sleep than it does with your ability to get along with a particular time of day.

For those of you who really want to see that sunrise and have extra hours in the day, here are few simple things you can do to achieve it.

Alarm

Of course! The first thing you have to do is set up your morning alarm to 6 am. If you are not a person who generally obeys your alarm screaming, then you should set two alarms one in your room and one right outside, which will make you get up from your bed and get you moving.

Sunrise

One of the things I have noticed is that if the room is pitch dark during sunrise and after, I can pretty much sleep all day. My body doesn’t seem to have an internal timer. Leave your room curtains slightly open, so when the sun comes up, your body will automatically react to the rays and get you moving and aware.

Coffee

If you are a coffee drinker, one of the best things you can do is set your coffee machine to automatic and leave it on your room table. When it’s time for you to get up, the coffee starts brewing, and the aroma of coffee is enough to activate your mind and sends signals to your brain that it’s time to get moving

Perfect Sleeper

Sleeping late at night or having disturbed sleep is one of the key reasons for people to feel foggy the next day or the reason they are unable to get up. If you have any sleeping issues, work on getting yourself the right mattress, get some aroma therapeutic oils like lavender or chamomile. You can even set up some night sounds like waterfall and crickets noise to give your mind an opportunity to relax naturally.

Get to bed by 10 pm and lay in bed with an eye mask and comfortable blanket and taking 10 to 20 deep breaths until you fall asleep.

Staying Active

One of the key ingredients to becoming a morning person is to be motivated to be active. Use the opportunity of getting up early to give yourself an easy one-hour at the gym, at your yoga class or simply meditate before your day begins. Having 1–2 hours of time before your day begins gives you time to relax, set goals and break a sweat.

Having some time for yourself also builds self-confidence, builds a sense of gratitude and you are more available to help others once you have taken care of yourself.

Set your mind. Set that alarm. Get moving!
