Avocados . . . they look like alligators on the outside and are pretty much the fountain of youth on the inside. Here are all the reasons you should eat avocados!

The Avocado Helps You Live Longer

Research shows that people who enjoy this fruit are among the healthiest among us, weigh less (with less belly fat), and have a lower BMI. That’s probably because this simple fruit is full of healing vitamins and minerals that have been shown to help people prevent metabolic syndrome and other diseases.

Alligator Fruit

The more I surround myself with the health and wellness gurus of the world, the more I’m motivated to go to the vegetable aisle and pick myself out my favorite “alligator fruit”: avocados! Let’s face it, we see avocados everywhere! As we should be! They’re absolutely delicious and incredibly healthy all at the same time. I love it when what’s good for us is what we should be eating: win-win! They’re tasty on toast (instead of sugary jelly), in salads, and sandwiches, straight out of the peel with a little garlic salt and cracked pepper, smashed and seasoned into guacamole, or (my new favorite) sneaking them into smoothies for a rich and creamy treat!

Fights the #1 Killer

According to the American Heart Association, up to 34% of adults have metabolic syndrome due to low levels of HDL, large waist circumferences, and high blood pressure. Luckily, avocados are full of healthy monounsaturated fats that help fight against this disease. They have anti-inflammatory benefits and other properties that can help lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart disease, the number one killer in men and women.

Kick Diseases to the Curb!

It doesn’t stop there, avocados provide 11% of the daily value for fiber and contain phytochemicals and health-promoting nutrients which aid in weight loss and reduce blood sugar spikes! In addition, they contain loads of potassium. Most people think of bananas as being the best source of potassium; however, avocados take the prize for this one! 3.5 ounces of the fruit contains 14% of the RDA and aids in reducing blood pressure which helps prevent strokes, kidney failure, and heart attacks. We should also tell carrots to move over because avocados protect our eyes. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are nutrients found in an avocado that reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration, and they benefit the long-term health of our eyes. If you already love avocados, then you’re already well on your way to kicking disease to the curb.

Final Thoughts

The only bad thing about avocados is when you must wait a couple of days for them to ripen…

Avocados are a wonderful fruit to add to your diet. If eaten regularly with other healthy fruits and vegetables, you’re putting money into your “long, healthy life” bank account!
