Robyn Openshaw

My name is Robyn Openshaw and what I’ve written here on my homepage introduces you to the many resources available on this site. The GreenSmoothieGirl.com mission is to help you achieve fantastic health and energy eating whole foods, 60-80% or more raw, easily and affordably.

n

It isn’t a “diet”; it’s a lifestyle you will never want to quit living!

n

What you can achieve living the lifestyle I am teaching just might blow your mind. My rather significant research says you’ll have radically better digestion/elimination, achieve your perfect weight, and have more energy coming your way. You can also look forward to decreasing your cravings for bad food, increasing your desire to exercise, and achieving emotional stability, pretty skin and hair, and even better sex, among other things.

n

Here’s my story that led me to envision this mission, author my books, create and support this site, and do whatever I can to help you on the journey:

n

I used to have people call or show up on my porch constantly, saying some variation of this:

n

“Can you teach me how to eat right? I want your energy and health. Please help me!”

nn
n
I have learned two interesting facts about people: (1) You want to eat right. (2) You do not know how.
n
n

This site is an outgrowth of that need. As my work has grown in a quantum way, working with now thousands instead of dozens (we currently have 50,000+ new visitors a month to this site), I have learned two interesting facts about people:

n

(1) You want to eat right. (2) You do not know how.

n

If this doesn’t describe you, this site might not be for you. (One other group served well here is folks who are already eating a raw food diet or high nutrition, but want new ideas or more growth and learning.)

n

Learning this about you, that you’re well intentioned but have been educated falsely in the modern world, turned a light bulb on in my brain. “How can people not know?” I wondered, at first. “Our ancestors have eaten these raw foods I teach about for thousands of years. There’s nothing proprietary about what I teach!”

n

But it’s true. We’re so far off track, with the Standard American Diet the habit of nearly all of us—even non-Americans in the world, now—we’ve literally lost a whole body of knowledge.

n

And when people begin searching, they can find a huge body on the Internet of people advocating a raw food diet. These folks are great, but they tend not to appeal to the mainstream, the average person. My readers look at their sites, their programs (often $400!), their recipes (often expensive and time consuming with a lot of obscure ingredients), and they say,

n

“I am a busy person and don’t love to spend my life in the kitchen—I don’t have time to do all that!”

n

Or,

n

“That dude eats practically nothing but fruit. I’m a triathlete [college student, traveling professional, food lover, you name it]—I need more than that!”

n

Or,

n

“I am a mom living in the ‘real world’. I need practical ideas and recipes my family will eat.”

n

Or, and this one is so common,

n

“These folks eat 100% raw—how is that practical? I’ve got to live life, too! Does it really have to be 100%?”

n

And finally,

n

“Raw food, a blender, a water ionizer, this stuff is too expensive for me.”

n

I am here to bridge that gap. The leap from 80% to 100% raw food is a huge and difficult, and I believe the law of diminishing returns applies. (Far too much work, for little gain—especially when the remaining 20% of your diet is good, whole plant food like legumes, whole grains, and cooked vegetables.)

nn
n
You already know you need to eat better. You know that greens, vegetables, and fruits need to be a big part of that. But you don’t see yourself becoming a 100% raw foodist. That’s okay here.
n
n

I straddle the Standard American Diet world and the earthy-crunchy world. I’d like to reach out a helping hand to those stuck in the S.A.D. I’m a regular soccer-mom-next-door. I wear mascara, big hoop earrings, and I go to the salon for a pedicure. I weave color in my hair and go to the neighborhood BBQ, family party, and church social. I don’t look or talk much like those on the fringe. My only interest is in helping you eat affordable raw food that actually tastes delicious and doesn’t take half the day to make. Whether you’re single, have a family, or are retired empty-nesters.

n

You can do it. Anyone can. That’s my point: you can do it your way, within your lifestyle. A normal lifestyle.

n

I teach eating a 60-80% raw plant food diet (in delicious ways). And I teach cooked whole foods to make up the difference, keeping animal products under 5% as supported by a massive body of research. I also help you use alkaline water to reverse the effects of so many acids in the modern diet and lifestyle. I believe this diet is both do-able, forever, and sufficient for a long, vibrantly healthy life. (I’d make a few exceptions: for instance, a cancer patient, who may want to undertake a 100% raw food diet.)

n

My greatest passion is teaching young mothers, who have tremendous influence on the next generation. That youngest generation is truly suffering in America and hurtling toward a health catastrophe.

n

As GreenSmoothieGirl.com went up, hundreds visited the site daily with (and this is still the case) no advertising whatsoever. They said, please write a book. I wrote the course 12 Steps to Whole Foods:

A year after putting this site up, I was commissioned by Ulysses Press to write The Green Smoothies Diet. It is a physical book in mass circulation (Amazon and booksellers everywhere), about the hows and whys of a 10-minute habit that will change your life, with 50 recipes. In the book, I review my research on the health benefits (and challenges) experienced by green smoothie drinkers, and I answer frequently asked questions. Only on GreenSmoothieGirl.com do you get an autographed copy:

Then readers said, please do some videos! Since people are visually oriented and love cooking demos, I have done lots of videos that are here on the site and YouTube (where you can subscribe and receive an email every time I release a new one):

I know my readers are frustrated by so much competing information about nutrition in the world today. Much of it is false, confusing, and serving to push us further into obesity and illness. I have (nearly obsessively) studied to what I believe is the bottom of many of these issues. I have two resources to suggest for you.

n

One is to obtain my free 12 Nutrition Myths report about things you’ve been taught by the media (pushed by huge industries with a profit motive) that are patently false:

n

12 Nutrition Myths.

n

Two is to check out which nutrition books are most important to read. Many just say the same things you already know. Some aren’t written well, make unsupported claims, or have false or outdated information. Many are too influenced by an industry with a profit motive. These are my favorites, so I’ve written short book reviews for you here:
